Здравей Тоби и добре дошъл в сайта.Кога започна да караш и кога стартира kiteforum.com? Поздрави Тоби Брауер
Hello Toby and welcome to kitemaina.com. When did you start kiting , and when you start the kiteforum.com. I started kitesurfing in summer 2000, and the kiteforum in September 2001 Where you live now and where is your favourite spot? I live during the European winter 6 months in Cumbuco , Brazil , and the other 6 months in Hamburg , Germany . But I don’t spend all 6 months in Hamburg , since during the European summer many events happen around the world. I always try to keep my time in Germany limited, since I don’t like riding in a wetsuit, since then it becomes very hard for me to land my board-off tricks. My favourite spots are the lagoons in the NE Brazil , specially the Cauipe lagoon is my favourite. Perfect flat water, steady wind, so during windy season I meanly can ride one kite size. So you can imagine how perfect it is to learn new tricks, when you always have the same conditions. What gear are you riding now? Currently I ride the Vegas08 in 12-14-16. The board is a Mallory Pro in 129x39. How did you get the idea for the site? I used to spend lots of time in a German forum, and my girlfriend said it is waste of time…so I started my own forum, so I won’t waste my time ;-) How many e-mails do you receive per day? It is ok, not too many. Maybe 30 a day or so. What for old school and new style kitesurfing? I think the discussion about new school and old school is very lame. If you watch old kite videos from 2001, you see all the wakestyle tricks already. So they are old school as well. Few people think this is the style for everyone, but it definitely is not. Normal people want to see tricks they can understand, and maybe do themselves one day with lots of practise, but without hurting the shoulders and knees and ruining their bodies for the future. On the other side it is good the young riders push the sport to further limits, but we should always keep in mind, that this is Kiteboarding, not Wakeboarding. We have a kite, so we should use it. In my opinion freestyle competitions should judge height more than how low the kite is. And then have wakestyle competitions, where low kites and power will be judged. I’m sure that at one point things will change, if no more spectators will watch the comps, the media has less interest etc. Kiteboarding should be a show, and every trick should be as high as possible. Why is there such a hype about Ruben Lenten’s huge kiteloops? Because it is high, it is a show, it entertains people, and they can understand the trick. For me we should have more competitions like the last Red Bull King of the Air in 2005. For me that is THE event our sport had. Huge waves, huge air, old school and new school at the same time, combined with wave riding. But we already see a change, since more and more race events are added to the calendars…which is good, since it brings together old and young riders, women and men, and everyone can win. And also new types of events with different disciplines, away from freestyle, will come. The good thing is, that we have the choices to ride who we like. But there should be the according events to compete as well, in all disciplines, so everyone, also spectators and media, will see what they want to see. Favourite trick? 4x board-off rotation landed with a downlooping kite Music and girls? I like every kind of music, except hard rock and techno. But specially enjoying Brazilian music, which has a lot of rhythm in it. I have a girlfriend since many years! Thanks Toby for interview and best wind. Greets Toby Braeuer
